Amy Winehouse Doc To Be Introduced At Cannes 2013

Amy Winehouse Get ready for “the moving and tragic story of a young woman from London”. Yeah, you already guess we're here to talk about late Grammy-winner singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse. We've just learned that British filmmaker Asif Kapadia is developing (still untitled) documentary that will feature unseen archive footage and will portray the singer who died in 2011 at the age of 27. The film will mark the third documentary effort for Kapadia, who's probably best known for his 2010 doc Senna, which is the highest-grossing documentary in UK history. In case you already forgot, that film was all about the Brazilian Formula 1 racecar driving champion Ayrton Senna, who died during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. The good thing is that Kapadia will reunite with his “Senna” producer James Gay-Rees for the upcoming documentary which will be produced by their new production company Playmaker Films while Universal Music will serve as co-producers. Kapadia will introduce the project to buyers at the upcoming Cannes International Film Festival, and here's what the above mentioned duo had to say about the whole thing: “This is an incredibly modern, emotional and relevant film that has the power to capture the zeitgeist and shine a light on the world we live in, in a way that very few films can. Amy was a once-in-a-generation talent who captured everyone's attention; she wrote and sung from the heart and everyone fell under her spell. But tragically Amy seemed to fall apart under the relentless media attention, her troubled relationships, her global success and precarious lifestyle. As a society we celebrated her huge success but then we were quick to judge her failings when it suited us.” We look forward to seeing their vision of Amy Winehouse. Stay tuned for more updates!
