Avatar 2” two months ago, way before the first film hit theaters. Now that “Avatar” has become a great success, an additional $75 million in its second week of release which would make it the #2 biggest second weekend ever just behind “The Dark Knight,” there is no doubt that 20th Century Fox would want to proceed with a second installment.
According to a recent
LA Times interview, which occurred on Avatar's opening night, Cameron is considering exploring the other moons surrounding the gas-giant planet
Polyphemus, which
Pandora orbits.
Cameron explained:
The planet in Pandora's sky is called Polyphemus and its a primary for a system of moons just like in our solar system. We have some story ideas about how to branch out into other moons of Polyphemus and the Alpha Centauri A (ACA) solar system.

Actually, when I pitched this to 20th Century Fox four-and-a-half years ago, I said, ‘You know, we're going to spend a lot of money and time and energy creating not only a process but the assets, the CG assets, we call them – all the models of every rock and tree and plant and creature and the muscle rigs for all the creatures and the facial rigging for the main characters and all that'… huge, millions and millions of dollars. So it really makes sense to think of it as the potential start of a franchise, if you will, or a saga that plays out over several acts, each movie being an act of that saga.

I thought Avatar was the coolest movie I have ever seen. Better than Star Wars, Better than Star Trec. I loved all the moral themes behind it. The cinematography and creation of a new world was fantastic. I hope Avatar has a long Saga of multiple movies. Keep the themes strong and it will be a great success.
I would prefer that Avatar was move into a more grey position. Humans are bad, moved by greed…
But, if the mineral was essential, because a war with a more intelligence race, when was visited by humans (perhaps on Alpha Centauri B), through reverse engineering could travel through space and move to Alpha Centauri A to attack humans… ¡and Na’vi too!
Although the first objetive of aggresive extraterrestrials are humans (because have a rival tech) on another moon of the gigant gas (a partial analogue of Mars, very more cold, but with life related to Pandora through panspermia), because a second human base of superconductor mining, Na’vi was to have a hard decision. Allow a human genocide whose relations had improved with the arrival of ecologist and spiritual humans, and risk to live near to a even more aggresive neighbors or help humans in a war that is not theirs and damage Pandora life in the process.
With some decades in the future, we could see a some Na’vi that don’t show the technology bad per se, and helps human scientifics to work on the other moons and speak about the wonders of space and other life while the most of Na’vi show them as infected by human culture.
I guess it is really hard to say, if it was the best movie ever, considering how much was already being put forward by movies like Star Wars, Terminator and other Sci-Fi genre pictures.
What really makes this particular movie interesting, is the fact, that beside the great deal of having an entire universe built-up for the viewer, there is a great potential of feeling brought to the viewer, an enormous amount of compassion that ties you to the main caracters. For instance, the love story between Neytiri and Jake Sully is so intense, that one seems to forget that it is set in a place, that does not exist, and (careful, spoiler ahead)only becomes kind of real at the end, where Neytiri sees the real Jake Sully.
If Cameron continues to awake these compassions in the viewers throughout and and at the same time create a new adventure that all caracters are part of in the the (possible) sequels, this might really become the biggest Saga in movie history.
avatar is my new favorite movie!i loved the storyline and how well they described whats happening.the main thing for me is that the planet was the big hook.everything about it from the plants to the CRAZY new animals.i feel that an adventure to outer space would totally defeat the purpose of the way the native people live and feel.they are not a technology race.they live simple and live off the environment and feel the connection of everything around them and the planet.they live far too simple to be adventuring into space.and that idea breaks what the people are about in my opinion!
Avatar was the best movie. I was thinking to myself during this movie man i really wish this was real it qould be so cool to live there and do all those things the graphics and animation just blew me away some times i was about to cry and others i was so sucked on to this movie a bomb could have gone off and i wouldn’t have noticed. i laughed so hard at parts of it and i thought yep i’d be doing the same thing it was so real i was just amazed. i really liked it and i hope they make a second one
This movie was so amazing that whenever I see any other there is one thought that will always be at the back of my mind. This just isn’t Avatar. If Cameron can make the sequels as good, or even half as good as the first I say go for it.
i think they should make a avatar 2 cause it was a great movie.this is the best movie i have watch so far…… go for it but don’t for get to make it in 3D

I am going to see Avatar (3D) again this weekend. After that, who knows. If Jim makes Avatar 2, I will be first in line to see it. Not only will I support a second Avatar but I wasnt a TRILOGY!!!
I have already wrote a review for this film, but after reading many reviews here I have to ask one question. Does a writers influence have to be from a hundred year old book in order for critics to be ok with that writer using that work as inspiration?
It is obvious that J.C. used Dances with Wolves as inspiration for this film, so what is wrong with that? I loved DWW and Loved AVATAR. I got the same emotion from viewing this movie as I did with DWW in 89! I could not move from my seat! But where Kevin Costner used authentic looking outfits and props, J.C. used mind blowing special effects and created a world for us that only my imagination has been able to create thus far. The only thing I can figure is people went in with a preconceived opinion! If we view things with conflict in our hearts then the outcome with be a conflict! Sorry bad reviewers, critique is in the eyes, ears and hearts of the critic. You see what you want to see. I went in with an open mind and open heart and come away with the knowledge of having seen and felt an awesome movie!
The special effects? I couldn’t praise it any better than others have done here.
The story? Yes, there is the resemblance of Pocahontas, Dances with Wolf, etc… but I notice something better in AVATAR:

The jar she brought if full of bad karma, just like Eve’s apple; yet, she gifted us all… but somehow she witheld Hope… Therefore, in her lies the answer to great despair. Such a nice place for James Cameron to name … See MorePandora, a nice place to embed Unobtainum, the solution to Earth energy crisis… Yet when she’s found, the humans are having another crisis… this time it’s theological.
The word Avatar also has a Hindu root (Avatāra (Devanagari अवतार, Sanskrit for “descent”) with some incarnation in another life tone. There is also the underlying theme of a Universal Spirit can be divided, morphed, connected, merged and recombined from Taoism, Animism the beliefs before religion.
I wonder if it’s just coincidents or these are really what James Cameron had in mind. It is a beautiful story. I doubt if the second story is any better but if so, the human race be re-educated… they have grown far away from their roots.
I now think the Ender Saga can be made into movie… but only through James Cameron’s vision.

I simply loved the movie. it is all so beautiful. pandora, the Na’vi, jake sully’s relathionship with Neytiri, the fauna and flora, the special effects, the soundtrack, everything. I was completely mesmerized by everything.
I would love to see in a sequel more of jake sully’s relathionship with neytiri and to explore Pandora. so I’m not very happy to know that a possible sequel would be about other moons of Polyphemus. explore other moons would be great but what about the characters that we feel so much passion for? and the gorgeous Pandora? I would terribly miss these.
in my opinion, if james cameron really wants to show the other moons, the best option would be to , in some way, also include pandora and the Na’vi. but I don’t know if that would be possible. it would be very hard to make a good movie based upon a story like that just because the Na’vi are so not a people of tecnology. therefore, you would not see them travelling to other planets. and I’m happy about that. that is what I loved about them. it was just them and their respect for nature.
anyways, I’m looking forward to see a sequel but I’m worried about it.

I really loved AVATAR, saw it 3 times & can’t wait for the AVATAR special edition DVD to come out! i can imagine all the extras, deleted scenes & never before seen footages of pandora & the Na’vi people! I say yes for AVATAR 2!

it was so fascinating… the movie maybe a fiction but it left us a lesson behind it… and it is up for us to figure out how to rebuild what we have destroyed, and protect whatever we have left… ‘coz once we lost the world we are living right now, we cannot always say that there some place like pandora who would care for us…
Avatar is the greatest movie of all time. It makes you feel like pandora really exist.
