Benedict Cumberbatch Benedict Cumberbatch is in some serious talks to join the upcoming big screen adaptation of David Grann‘s book The Lost City of Z. At this moment we know that We Own the Night helmer James Gray is on board to direct the nonfiction book which centers on a British colonel who disappeared trying to find a legendary mythical city during the 1920s. Head inside to find more details about the whole thing… So, what the hell happened to the British explorer Percy Fawcett and his quest for the Lost City of Z? We'll soon find that out, 'cause Cumberbatch is in negotiations to play the male lead, aka the above mentioned Fawcett. He ventured into the Amazon to find an ancient civilization, hoping to make one of the most important discoveries in history. In case you want more details about the story, here's the official description of Grann's book:
For centuries Europeans believed the world's largest jungle concealed the glittering kingdom of El Dorado. Thousands had died looking for it, leaving many scientists convinced that the Amazon was truly inimical to humankind. But Fawcett, whose daring expeditions helped inspire Conan Doyle's The Lost World, had spent years building his scientific case. Captivating the imagination of millions around the globe, Fawcett embarked with his twenty-one-year-old son, determined to prove that this ancient civilization – which he dubbed “Z” – existed. Then he and his expedition vanished.
Definitely sounds promising, especially when we add that some seriously good team will stand behind the whole thing: Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Anthony Katagas are set to produce the project for Plan B, while Panorama Media will finance the pic. Hope we'll soon have more updates to share, make sure you stay tuned! The Lost City of Z cover
