Cameron Diaz Joins ANNIE Remake

Cameron Diaz Somehow we missed telling you that Sandra Bullock was in negotiations for the role of cruel orphanage matron Miss Hannigan in Sony’s forthcoming update of the Broadway musical Annie. Well, after all, we didn’t miss such a big deal because negotiations with Bullock fell through. Now comes word via Deadline that Cameron Diaz is set to play the meanie who runs the Annie’s orphanage, opposite Quvenzhane Wallis and Jamie Foxx. Beasts Of The Southern Wild‘s Wallis is already on board to portray the iconic title character in the film, while Foxx is starring as a wealthy Benjamin Stacks aka Daddy Warbucks who adopts Annie. Easy A helmer Will Gluck will direct the big screen adaptation of the classic comic strip-turned-musical for producers Will Smith and Jay-Z. Smith’s daughter Willow was originally slated to star in the title role, but turned it down and many assumed Beyonce would take on the role of Miss Hannigan just because. Annie is scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas Day, December 25th, 2014 with production expected to start this fall. Carol Burnett played Miss Hannigan in the 1982 film version of Annie, while more recently, Jane Lynch played the character on Broadway.
