The idea with this particular piece was to emulate an old WWII propaganda poster/flyer that went along with the world we were creating. It symbolizes rationing – voluntary work force, no guts, no glory kind of heroism. At the end, let me just remind you that Pacific Rim opens on July 12th, 2013!
Check Out New Vintage Poster For PACIFIC RIM!
Victory! Now is the time to join! Shame on me, I totally forgot about this one! But fortunately, folks from Lionsgate are here to remind us all that Guillermo del Toro‘s upcoming sci-fi action Pacific Rim is definitely worth our full attention! Today we're here to share an exclusive piece of art – completely new vintage poster for the whole thing. Hope you'll like it!
The movie is already set to open next July, and as you probably know, quite serious cast is on board: Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman and Charlie Day all star in the movie which del Toro directs from a script written by Travis Beacham.
The movie will center on a fight between massive robots – Jaegers and monstrous creatures known as Kaiju. The thing with Jaegers is that they are actually a special type of weapon controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. That's an interesting party of the story, at least for me.
But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes: a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past.
And, together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Cool story, indeed!
But, back to this poster! I forgot to say one important thing – the art was created by Spanish artist Raúl Monge who, by the way, serves as a Concept Artist for the Pacific Rim movie. I think Monge did a great job with this poster, and here's what del Toro had to say about it:
