Chloe Coleman, the dynamic lead of the “My Spy” series, has a thrilling vision for the potential third installment of the franchise. Following the success of “My Spy” and its sequel, “My Spy: The Eternal City,” Coleman expressed her desire to take the action to the heart of Japan, specifically Tokyo, envisioning a cyberpunk-themed adventure.
In an exclusive interview, Coleman shared her enthusiasm, stating,
I would love to do another movie. And I'd love to go to Japan. I've always wanted to go to Japan, specifically Tokyo would be so cool. Like a cyberpunk ‘My Spy.' It'd be so awesome. It would be so fun.
The franchise's first film, released in 2020, starred Coleman alongside Dave Bautista, and took place primarily in Illinois. The sequel, “My Spy: The Eternal City,” expanded the setting to the picturesque locales of Italy, including Cape Town. The move to international settings brought a fresh dynamic to the story, and Coleman's involvement in the action scenes grew significantly.
Reflecting on her experience filming “The Eternal City,” Coleman noted,
“I was definitely more involved with the action in this film in so many ways, like from martial arts and kickboxing to scuba diving and riding a moped. And the skydiving scenes, definitely Sophie was more into the action, it was so fun.”
Coleman's portrayal of Sophie, the step-daughter of Bautista's spy character JJ, has been praised for its authenticity and emotional depth. The chemistry between Coleman and Bautista has been a cornerstone of the series, with Coleman highlighting how much she enjoys working with him.
“I think I love working with Dave because I always feel so real with him. And I never really feel like I'm acting. I feel like I can just be myself around him,”
she shared.
The dynamic between Sophie and JJ evolves significantly in the sequel, showcasing Sophie's quest for independence and the heartwarming reconciliation between them. Coleman cherished these moments, stating, “Their dynamic and the full-circle moments that they have where they really come back to each other at the end and remember their love for each other. I think that's my favorite part of the film.”
As fans eagerly await news of a potential “My Spy 3,” Coleman's vision of a Tokyo-based adventure promises an exciting new chapter in the beloved series. The idea of blending spy action with Tokyo's vibrant, futuristic backdrop is sure to captivate audiences and bring a fresh twist to the franchise.
In addition to her work on “My Spy,” Coleman also starred in “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” in 2023, where she played Kira, the daughter of Chris Pine's Edgin. While there has been no official word on a sequel, Coleman expressed her enthusiasm for returning to the role.
