Wild, impulsive, reckless, volatile, womanizing, alcoholic, unfortunate friend of Charles Manson…Dennis was The Real Beach Boy – the only member of the group who actually surfed. He lived the life described in his brother Brian Wilson’s songs and tragically drowned in Marina Del Rey in California in 1983, trying to recover possessions from his beloved yacht, Harmony, that was lying at the bottom of the sea.
Jody Savin and Randall Miller, the duo behind the Sundance Film Festival hit Bottle Shock, will write/direct The Drummer, the indie biopic of Beach Boys percussionist Dennis Wilson.
Aaron Eckhart will play the late Dennis Wilson and Vera Farmiga was cast as Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter Christine McVie.
Now comes word that two more young actors, Rupert Grint and Chloe Moretz have both joined the cast.
Harry Potter star will play a William Morris mail-room intern, Stan Shapiro who befriended the musician in the last few years of his life, while 15-year-old Dark Shadows star is in negotiations to play the drummer’s daughter, Jennifer.
Talking about the project director Miller said:
The soundtrack will feature Dennis’ music from Pacific Ocean Blue as well as previously unreleased Dennis Wilson music and music from the Beach Boys as well.
The Drummer will begin shooting June 15th in locations in California and Savannah, Georgia.
