Colin O’Donoghue Joins Anthony Hopkins in The Rite
You already had a chance to hear that Anthony Hopkins would be the part of an upcoming project titled The Rite, a supernatural thriller from New Line.
But now we have to update this report, and to add new name on this list, because young actor Colin O'Donoghue (you probably remember him from The Tudors) joined the team as well.
So, the whole project is based upon the book The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist by Matt Baglio. And yes, you pretty much can guess that it is about the real-world practice of exorcism, so no wonder Michael Petroni is writing the script faithful to the original book.
We must mention that the whole thing is based on true events, and the story will center on a disillusioned American seminary student who attends exorcism school at the Vatican and ultimately finds his faith through encounters with demonic forces.
Hopkins will play “a priest who is an expert in exorcisms and whose methods are not necessarily traditional” and O'Donoghue is likely to play the seminary student who is tutored by Hopkins in the rites, and finds spiritual growth in the process.
It's interesting that it's already described with these words: “Written with an investigative eye that will captivate both skeptics and believers alike, The Rite shows that the truth about demonic possession is not only stranger than fiction, but also far more chilling.“
So, if you're a fan of this kind of stories, then we're more then sure you will enjoy this one.
At the end of this report, we could also mention that Contrafilm's Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson are producing and Mikael Hafstrom is directing from Michael Petroni's screenplay.
It's really interesting that Hopkins is making fighting supernatural forces a habit lately. The actor is onscreen hunting a werewolf in The Wolfman and shooting Marvel's Thor, in which he plays Odin, the ruler of Asgard.
That's why we have no doubt about his new The Rite powers, and we're looking forward to see what would that look like!
