Who would have guessed that BBC's sci-fi TV series
Doctor Who would become a Hollywood blockbuster some day? Save your breath, we all knew. Even
David Yates knew there's a lot of potential in this story, so no wonder we have great news for
Doctor's fans out there and it goes like this – Yates is set to helm a big-screen adaptation of the well-known tv series!
I know, I know, we're all excited about this one. Mostly because Yates, man behind the last four
Harry Potter movies is on board to direct the whole thing. It already sounds promising. We know that the series centers on adventures of an alien known as The Doctor who goes around with a human companion across space and time. Just for a record, the programme is listed in Guinness World Records as the longest-running science fiction television show in the world, and as
the most successful science fiction series of all time!
Of course we don't expect to see the same story again. After all, the original has been recognised for its imaginative stories, creative low-budget special effects as well as pioneering use of electronic music. And last time I checked, it was 2011 so yes please – we need a new fresh approach!
That's exactly what Yates plans to do with his version – he will not follow on from the popular TV series. He also said: “The notion of the time-travelling Time Lord is such a strong one, because you can express story and drama in any dimension or time” and added: “We're looking at writers now. We're going to spend two to three years to get it right. It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena.”
Bigger arena description looks so small at this moment. But let me ask you just one thing – who should play the time-traveling Doctor? I'm so curious about that, any thoughts?
I wouldn’t let David Yates touch any of my enemies, let alone a beloved character like The Doctor.
I tolerate this century but I don’t enjoy it.
Wondering what’s next… Men behaving badly?
