Women everywhere are getting really excited about a very sexy book,
Fifty Shades of Grey and the film adaptation of the erotic bestseller has finally found its producers.
Moneyball and The Social Network producers
Mike De Luca and
Dana Brunetti beat out a slew of top Hollywood producers to win the rights to produce the best-selling erotic novel that sparked a bidding war in Hollywood.
The film is being made for
Universal pictures and Focus Features that bought rights to E L James' trilogy back in March for $5 million. The trilogy also includes ‘Fifty Shades Darker' and ‘Fifty Shades Freed'.
The studio said in a statement:
At its core, Fifty Shades of Grey is a complex love story, requiring a delicate and sophisticated hand to bring it to the big screen. Mike and Dana's credits more than exemplify what we need in creative partners, and we're glad to have them as part of our team.
Imagine's Brian Grazer, Double Feature Films' Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher and Stuber Productions' Scott Stuber were also competing.
Besides, Universal have taken the highly unusual step of allowing author E.L. James to pick the film's producers.
Therefore, James said:
I am thrilled that Mike has joined Team Fifty. He brings a passion for and in-depth understanding of the characters and story, and a wealth of experience in making quality films.”
‘Fifty Shades of Grey' traces the relationship between a recent college graduate and a billionaire businessman; it originated from a piece of ‘Twilight' and, thanks to its steamy plot line, has since sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.
Now they need to hire writers and a director — rumors about casting (Ian Somerhalder, Alexander Skarsgard, etc.) have been flying for months.
