The Light Between Oceans
Derek Cianfrance Good news for all Derek Cianfrance fans – we've just learned that Blue Valentine helmer is now set to direct an adaptation of M.L. Stedman‘s debut novel The Light Between Oceans. At this moment we know that DreamWorks Pictures will stand behind the project which revolves around a lighthouse keeper and his wife who face a moral dilemma when a dead man and a two-month-old infant wash up in a boat on shore. According to the latest reports, quite interesting team is on board for the upcoming adaptation. Heyday Films' David Heyman (Harry Potter vet) and Jeffrey Clifford are set to produce, while Rosie Alison will executive produce the project. And, of course, they all believe that Cianfrance can make a modern epic from M.L.'s poignant novel and that he will be able to capture the great epic sweep and emotional honestly of this story. As for the story, here's the official description of the novel:
After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day's journey from the coast. To this isolated island where the supply boat comes once a season, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby's cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby. Tom, who keeps meticulous records and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel insists the baby is a “gift from God,” and against Tom's judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them.
Hope this sounds interesting enough for you? Let us know what you think & stay tuned for more updates! The Light Between Oceans
