Emma Rigby as Red Queen in ABC’s ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND
English actress Emma Rigby, probably best known as Hannah Ashworth from Hollyoaks soap opera, has joined ABC's upcoming Once Upon A Time spinoff! In case you forgot, the project now has a new title – Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, and as we previously reported, it already stars Sophie Lowe, Michael Socha and Peter Gadiot.
Here's a little reminder – the project comes from “Once Upon A Time” creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz and is set in pre-curse Wonderland.
It will revolve around Lowe's character Alice, a girl with a generous heart who carries the scars of a long hard life, her love interest Cyrus (played by Gadiot) and a sardonic adventurer the Knave of Hearts (Socha).
As for Rigby, she comes on board to play the Red Queen, a character based on the playing card that originated in Lewis Carrol's novel Through The Looking Glass”.
Yeah, you already guess – we're talking about Helena Bonham Carter's character (from the 2010 Tim Burton movie), lady who has a short temper and is merciless against her enemies and those who have betrayed her.
Hard for me to imagine Rigby as the Red Queen, but I will definitely give her a try.
Anyway, at the end of this report let me also add that the four-scene Once Upon A Time In Wonderland presentation is slated to begin filming April 7 in Vancouver, which means that we'll soon have more updates to share.
Stay tuned!

Thanks for sharing the news Fiona! Emma looks a bit too nice to be the Red Queen lol! I’m sure she’ll do just fine though, so I’ll keep my eyes peeled for a future premiere date to see how she fares. Like with most of the shows I watch I won’t be able to keep up with this one live because of my work schedule at DISH, but I do plan on recording the series. If this follows in Once Upon a Time’s footsteps then I won’t have to worry about setting a recording timer, since my DISH Hopper will automatically record it. I have it enabled where all of the primetime shows auto-record each night for me on ABC, so luckily I have no worries about missing a moment of what’s to come with this; I can’t wait!
