Academy Award-winning actress
Emma Thompson could be teaming up with
Tom Hanks for ‘making-of Mary Poppins' film
Saving Mr. Banks.
Penned by rising writer
Kelly Marcel (the pilot of Terra Nova) the Black List script tells the true story of Disney's 14-year courtship of Australian author P.L. Travers for the rights to the Mary Poppins character.
Travers was ultimately displeased with the 1964 feature film adaptation, especially the animated sequences, starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke and even more upset with the way the property was treated by Disney.
Hanks is officially in talks to portray film legend Walt Disney, with Thompson as Australian author Pamela Lyndon (PL) Travers.
A triple Oscar winner Meryl Streep was also being considered to take the role of Pamela, earlier.
Ironically, Disney is the studio that's putting Saving Mr. Banks together and set
John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) to direct.
Hanks is next set to shoot the Somali true-life pirate picture Captain Phillips for director Paul Greengrass.
Thompson recently signed on to star in the adaptation Beautiful Creatures and will next be seen in this summer's Men in Black 3 and will next be heard in Pixar's Brave.
