Directed by Jon M. Chu, the movie adaptation of Wicked is set to be a cinematic spectacle that will stay true to the spirit of the original musical while offering a fresh take on the beloved story. With its talented cast, impressive production design, and timeless themes, Wicked is poised to become a cinematic event of the year.

The Wicked movie adaptation will be released in two parts:

  • Part 1 will hit theaters on November 27, 2024, which is around Thanksgiving in the United States. This release date has been moved up by a month from the previously announced date.
  • Part 2 will conclude the story and be released on November 26, 2025, also around the Thanksgiving holiday.

The decision to split the film into two parts was made by director Jon M. Chu, who felt it would be impossible to adapt the entire story into a single film without making significant cuts to the source material. This approach allows the filmmakers to fully explore the beloved characters and story while honoring the foundations of the original musical.

Synopsis: The movie adaptation of Wicked tells the story of the unlikely friendship between Glinda, the popular and beautiful witch, and Elphaba, the smart and misunderstood witch with emerald green skin. The film explores their journey from rivals to friends, set against the backdrop of the magical world of Oz.

Are you excited to see Ariana Grande and the rest of the cast bring the world of ‘Wicked' to life on the big screen?
