Pacific Rim opens tomorrow! Hurray! Let’s celebrate the good news with a brand new (and almost 3-minute long) clip from Guillermo del Toro‘s sci-fi spectacle, shall we? Stupid question, just head inside and take a look at Charlie Hunnam aka Raleigh Becket and his massive fighting robot Gypsy Danger!
So, just as we said at the beginning, Pacific Rim opens tomorrow, July 12th, 2013, and beside Hunnam also stars Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini (and more).
Del Toro directed the whole thing from a script he co-wrote with Travis Beacham, which is set in the near future, and revolves around giant monsters (aka Kaiju) who have risen from a portal on the ocean floor.
To combat the monsters, a special type of weapon is designed: massive robots, known as Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge which prevents the mental strain which would overwhelm a single pilot. But as the war continued on for over ten years, even the Jaegers struggle to win the war against a relentless enemy. Against all odds, the remaining forces of mankind make a final stand to end the Kaiju menace…
