Ben Wheatley's terrific black comedy Sightseers opened in some US theaters and on VOD two weeks ago. The first trailer for his follow-up effort, A Field in England has now arrived along with the new poster (above).
Described as ‘a psychedelic trip into magic and madness' the horror film will be the first ever UK production to debut simultaneously in just about every format known to humankind – Americans will get to see it later this year thanks to Drafthouse Films.
A Field in England follows a group of soldiers during the English Civil War of the 17th century who stumble upon a mushroom field, where they fall victim to violent and nightmarish forces.
The film stars Reece Shearsmith (The League Of Gentlemen), Michael Smiley (Kill List), Richard Glover (Sightseers), Ryan Pope (Ideal), Peter Ferdinando (Tony) and also features Julian Barrett (The Mighty Boosh) in a small role.
Said Drafthouse's Tim League in the announcement:
When we world-premiered Ben's debut feature ‘Down Terrace' at Fantastic Fest in 2009, he deservedly won top prize, the AMD Next Wave award. We knew we were witnessing the debut of a major talent. Ben represents the ideal filmmaker we love to support at Drafthouse Films and fully embodies our unique brand – a visionary who compounds genre themes and artfully unusual sensibilities. We are incredibly honored to be working with him to release ‘A Field In England.
Penned by Wheatley's longtime co-writer Amy Jump, the mysterious film hits UK theaters, DVD, Blu-ray, VOD and Film 4 on July 5th, 2013.
The director behind the twisty, dark Kill List, Wheatley is currently in pre-production on his big-budgeted sci-fi/action epic Freak Shift.
