First Trailer For Shakespeare’s CYMBELINE Adaptation
Here’s the first official trailer for the new big screen adaptation of William Shakespeare’s lesser-known tragedy Cymbeline, now with dirty cops and drug dealing biker gangs.
Writer/director Michael Almereyda (who directed Ethan Hawke in Hamlet thirteen years ago)’s violent crime drama in the vein of Sons of Anarchy, stars Hawke as the main baddie and Milla Jovovich as the scheming queen, a master manipulator who is married to Ed Harris.
Co-starring Penn Badgley, Anton Yelchin, John Leguizamo, Dakota Johnson, and Delroy Lindo, this updated version takes the tale of Roman and Celtic nobility battling it out to the streets of a corruption-riddled 21st century America.
Johnson plays Imogen, who disobeys her father (Harris)’s wishes that she marries the dull Cloten (Yelchin) by instead romancing orphan Posthumous (Badgley).
The labyrinthine romance which on the page includes deception, disguises, cross-dressing and supernatural intervention should be in theaters next year, but the movie has no U.S. release date or even distributor yet.
