New Line Cinema has released five new TV spots and 17 photos from Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, sequel to 2008′s Journey to the Center of the Earth. The new film brings back Josh Hutcherson as Sean Anderson and introduces Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgens, Kristen Davis and Luis Guzman into the mix as a small group takes a trip into the ocean and ends up finding the legendary mysterious island first written about by Jules Verne.
Synopsis:
The new journey begins when young adventurer Sean (Josh Hutcherson) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist–a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret. Unable to stop him from going, Sean’s new stepfather (Dwayne Johnson) joins the quest. Together with a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is directed by Brad Peyton and hits theaters February 10th, 2012.

i’m a HUGE Mysterious Island fan – can’t wait to see this one!
And apparently, there’s ANOTHER Mysterious Island premiering on TV the same weekend as Journey 2 – “Jules Verne’s Mysterious Island”, directed by Mark Sheppard (Leverage, Warehouse 13). Mark also stars in the film as young Captain Nemo, and directs his father, W. Morgan Sheppard as the elder Captain Nemo.
“Jules Verne’s Mysterious Island” premieres 2/11/12 as a Syfy Original Movie.
