The highly anticipated movie adaptation of Wicked is intensifying its pre-release buzz with five new character posters, revealing fresh takes on iconic characters like Elphaba and Glinda. Universal Pictures has set the stage for this cinematic event by showcasing lead stars Cynthia Erivo as the misunderstood, green-skinned Elphaba, and Ariana Grande as Glinda, her ambitious counterpart. These posters capture each character's essence, adding a modern twist to the classic visuals from the beloved Broadway musical.

Directed by Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights), Wicked promises a spectacular retelling of the “untold story” of the witches of Oz. Fans of the musical can expect to see the Land of Oz and Shiz University with even more vibrancy on the big screen. Alongside Erivo and Grande, the film features an impressive cast, including Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, and Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Glinda's suitor. New character posters spotlight these actors, each embodying their character's signature style and role within the world of Oz, adding to fans' excitement

The film adaptation is set for release on November 22, 2024, with a second installment planned for November 2025. This release structure allows for an in-depth exploration of the backstories and relationships among the central characters, offering a deeper dive into the storyline that has captivated theatergoers for decades.

The release of these posters further builds anticipation for Wicked, as they hint at a visually rich and deeply emotional portrayal of these beloved characters. Erivo and Grande's transformation into Elphaba and Glinda, respectively, brings a fresh, cinematic appeal to roles that have historically been defined on stage. While adapting a story as iconic as Wicked is no easy feat, the character posters reflect a dedication to staying true to the original narrative while reimagining the story for a wider audience. This film could mark a turning point for movie musicals if it successfully captures the emotional depth and grandeur of the stage show.
