The news that Rise of the Planet of the Apes helemer
Rupert Wyatt was walking away from the follow-up,
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was disappointing.
20th Century Fox is still fast tracking the film's script by
Rick Jaffa and
Amanda Silver, but they have announced a short list of filmmakers to possibly replace Wyatt.
Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), who has been loosely attached to Twilight Zone project for about a year is the running favorite. He could be battling it out with an impressive array of opponents for the Apes property including
J Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed),
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) and
Jeff Nichols (Mud).
Longer shots being reported are
Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible),
Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) and
Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim) – doubtful, but it couldn't hurt.
An announcement is likely soon, given that work will need to start soon – May 23rd, 2014 isn't too far away.
What say you? Who among them would be your favorite to direct?
