In a story from
Heat Vision, Universal and Working Title have acquired the rights to a web short by commercials director
Gary Shore titled
The Cup of Tears and are hoping to turn it into a feature.
Cup Of Tears follows a scorned geisha who creates a magical cup made of tears that causes any man who drinks from it to fall into a permanent sleep. One night the cup is stolen, setting off a chain of events that threatens civil war amongst the clans. Taro, a gifted samurai, sets out to find the cup and one who can break the spell.
Shore is best known for commercials. He has worked six months on
The Cup of Tears short last year, as a way to transition from the world of commercials into the movie business.
Shore will remain on the film, and has already written a feature-length treatment. The studio will bring on another writer to adapt it into a screenplay, after which Shore will direct the movie version.
The Internet short/trailer debuted this past fall. Check it out below and let us know what you think…
