Gosling and Refn Going Into The Future With Logan’s Run Remake
The Blue Valentine star Ryan Gosling may well join to Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn for a new version of the 1976 futuristic drama Logan's Run, about a man in the world of 2116 who tries to run faster than a mandatory death sentence, reported Deadline.com
Filming for remake has been ongoing for over a decade. Warner Bros began development in the mid-90s. Bryan Singer was brought in 2004, but dropped out due to scheduling disagreements in 2006. Tron Legacy‘s Joseph Kosinski was hired as the new director in 2007 before moving on, and Carl Erik Rinsch got the job in 2010 but canceled it for the same reason Singer did. Danish filmmaker Refn, most known for Bronson and Valhalla Rising, is reportedly lined up to take the helming duty and thus he will soon reunite with his “Drive” actor Gosling.
In the upcoming movie Canadian actor will play Logan 3, a “Sandman”, whose duty it is to hunt down residents trying to run away and not willingly being executed. In order to avoid overpopulation person's maximum age is strictly legislated on twenty one years and those who attempt to evade their fate by escaping are considered “Runners”. Logan turns out on the run after he has expressed sympathy for members of Runners underground railway.
79th Academy Award nominees Ryan Gosling is so busy these days. He recently took on several indie films including “Blue Valentine” and All Good Things. Furthermore, he is set to star in The Ides of March to be directed by George Clooney.
Besides, Alex Garland writes the script which is said to follow closely to the 1967 novel by William F. Nolan than the original movie. Production for the sci-fi thriller is scheduled to take place this fall.
