The movie-going audience cannot wait for the new Korean action movie called “Hijack 1971. ” The storyline is based on true events, and the feature film director is Kim Seong-han as this is his debut work The film premiered in South Korea last week and is planned to be released in selected theatres across the United States on July 5th, 2024.

“Hijack 1971” takes place in the winter of 1971, where a normal flight from Sokcho Airport to Gimpo is disrupted. The lead roles include Ha Jung-woo as Tae-in, the first officer; Sung Dong-il as Gyu-sik, the captain; Yeo Jin-goo as Yong-dae, the terrorist hijacker and Chae Soo-bin as Lee Ok-soon, a fearless female flight attendant. The actors' work reveals significant anxiety and authenticity in depicting this thrilling plot.

The storyline begins with a rudimentary bomb detonating shortly after the aircraft has taken off, creating mayhem on board. The hijacker, Yong-dae, takes over the plane and insists, “From now on, this plane is going north. ” The blast injures Gyu-sik and blinds him partially, while Tae-in struggles to land the plane under the chaotic situation. This intense scene is well depicted and with clear details of the bravery and strength of the characters.

The plot of the movie is based on the true story as the screenplay was written by Kim Kyung-chan. Directed by Jung Won-chan and made in association with Perfect Storm Film & Channel Plus, Hijack 1971 is a story of human survival against great odds.

That Sony Pictures decided to launch the film in both the US and South Korea simultaneously indicates the global acceptance of Korean films. Indeed, as ordinary viewers, it is always a privilege to watch such captivating stories on the big screen and experience the mix of the action, suspense and history.

Because “Hijack 1971” is based on true events and has heavy action sequences and strong performances, the movie should be one of the hit films this summer. Do not miss it on big screen and see the excitement and the drama of this amazing story based on true events.
