How to Train Your Dragon

Universal Pictures has recently unveiled a captivating 30-second Super Bowl TV spot for the upcoming live-action adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon,” set to soar into theaters on June 13, 2025. This reimagining of the beloved 2010 animated classic promises to bring the enchanting tale of Hiccup and Toothless to life in a whole new dimension.

The original “How to Train Your Dragon” film, released in 2010, introduced audiences to the enchanting world of Berk, where young Viking Hiccup forms an unlikely friendship with a dragon named Toothless. The film was a critical and commercial success, leading to two sequels and a dedicated fan base.

In this live-action adaptation, Mason Thames, known for his role in “The Black Phone,” takes on the role of Hiccup. Nico Parker portrays Astrid, Hiccup’s spirited companion, while Gerard Butler reprises his role as Stoick the Vast, Hiccup’s formidable father. The cast also includes Nick Frost as Gobber, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs, and other notable talents.

The Super Bowl TV spot offers a tantalizing glimpse into the film’s visual splendor, showcasing breathtaking aerial sequences and the deep bond between Hiccup and Toothless. Director Dean DeBlois, who helmed the original animated trilogy, returns to write and direct this live-action rendition, ensuring continuity in storytelling and vision.

The narrative centers on Hiccup, the inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick. Defying Viking traditions, Hiccup befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their bond challenges societal norms and reveals the true nature of dragons. As an ancient threat looms, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless becomes pivotal in forging a new future.

The film’s production involved extensive use of practical sets and was filmed with the IMAX format in mind, promising an immersive cinematic experience. Many iconic scenes from the original film have been recreated in live-action, notably Hiccup’s first encounter with Toothless.
