Johnny Depp is in some serious negotiations to star in
Mortdecai, an adaptation of
The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery novel, written by
Kyril Bonfiglioli. If negotiations work out, Depp will reteam with his
Secret Window helmer
David Koepp, who's already attached to direct the movie for Lionsgate. Head inside to find more details…
So, at this moment we know that Koepp is on board to direct the project from a script written by
Eric Aronson, which revolves around a debonair art dealer and part-time rogue who:
…must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.
According to
THR, Depp is in talks to play that art dealer named Charles Mortdecai, who also has to juggle angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist.
But, in case you want even more details, here's the official description of Bonfiglioli's novel:
Bonfiglioli's final novel follows the Hon. Charlie Mortdecai from adventure to misadventure via Jersey and Moscow to a final showdown in a Buckinghamshire bungalow of unparalleled hideousness. Tackling en route an unhealthy sprinkling of well-seasoned academics, a cryptic monk, an aristocratic Chief Constable, and more spies than you could shoehorn into a black stretch limo, Mordecai finds himself embroiled in another mission of international insecurity.
At the end of this report, let us also add that Depp hopes to film
Mortdecai between
Into the Woods and
Pirates of the Caribbean 5, and that he will also produce the movie with his
Infinitum Nihil partner Christi Dembrowski and Andrew Lazar.
Guess we'll soon have more updates to share – make sure you stay tuned!
