Karl Urban as Judge Dredd
New movie version of Judge Dredd is coming and Star Trek star Karl Urban is set to play the leading role.
You can call this just another rumor, but the actor already confirmed that he's in the talks for the role and that “at this point it's lookin' good.
He is a phenomenal iconic comic book character, so it's a world I know and it would be a privilege and a pleasure to be able to bring that to life.”
It is set in a futuristic world filled with violence, and the character is empowered to act as judge, jury and executioner.
In addition to that, we can all expect to see “a very action heavy script, with some amazing sequences that will make any Dredd fan happy…this is a gritty film that plays the world we are in as a realistic future, a very dark, unpleasant crime ridden world as Dredd explains ‘Tweleve serious crimes reported every minute. Seventeen thousand per day. We respond to around six percent'.
The famous ‘I am the law' makes a few appearances….It never felt too long or too short, It's just right. The pace is fantastic and if shot well would make for one visually stunning piece upon release”
And, let us mention that Judge Dredd will not be removing his famous helmet in the reboot, as in the comic book.
Judge Dredd will be directed by Pete Travis from a script written by Alex Garland.
The new adaptation is set to be filmed in Johannesburg this year and expected for release either next year or 2012.

Judge Dredd is a great comic book character. Kind of like a cross between Dirty Harry and Mad Max.
