Latency

Sci-fi enthusiasts and gamers alike are in for a treat this summer with the release of Latency, a new thriller from Lionsgate. Starring Sasha Luss as Hana and Alexis Ren as Jen, this film promises to blend the high-stakes world of esports with the eerie possibilities of virtual reality. Mark your calendars for July 9, when Latency becomes available on video-on-demand.

The Latency trailer introduces us to Hana, a professional gamer grappling with acute agoraphobia, which confines her to her apartment. Her world takes a dramatic turn when she receives a package from a tech company, inviting her to test their new VR product, Omnia. Initially, Omnia offers an escape and enhancement for Hana's gaming experience. However, as she dives deeper into the virtual world, her perception of reality starts to warp, and terrifying characters begin to appear around her.

Directed and written by James Croke, Latency explores themes of reality, technology, and psychological horror. The film features a talented cast, including Ava Caryofyllis, Robert Coleby, Edward Frame, Harlee Timms, Chloe Schwank, and Daria Skyrygina. The production team boasts industry veterans such as Barry Brooker, Damon H. Chung, Scott Clayton, Jordan Gertner, Gary A. Hirsch, and Wych Kaosayananda, with executive producers Josh Spector and Stan Wertlieb.

The plot synopsis reveals a deeper layer of intrigue: “When Hana (Luss), a professional gamer who suffers from acute agoraphobia, is asked to trial sophisticated new gaming equipment which uses AI to interpret the electrical activity of her brain, she sees an opportunity to enhance her game. As Hana and her best friend Jen (Ren) experiment with this new technology, the line between reality and Hana's subconscious quickly begins to blur, and she starts to wonder if the device is helping her or serving a more sinister force.”

Lionsgate's Latency offers a compelling narrative that challenges our understanding of technology's impact on mental health. With its intense storyline, strong performances, and thought-provoking themes, this film is set to be a standout in the sci-fi thriller genre.

‘Latency' – Sasha Luss

In conclusion, Latency is not just another addition to the vast landscape of sci-fi films but a unique exploration of the human psyche intertwined with the rapid advancements in virtual reality. Be sure to watch the trailer and prepare yourself for a psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Don't miss its release on July 9, and get ready to question what is real and what is just in your mind.
