Matt Damon and Ben Affleck for Kevin Smith’s Hit Somebody?

Nick Martin August 5, 2011 3 comments
Kevin Smith, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck Kevin Smith will try to convince both Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to appear on his next film Hit Somebody. And he “would even put a stick in Willis'(Bruce) hand!” Kevin Patrick Smith, well known to viewers as Silent Bob, has been chatting to MTV about the work coming at once on his next (and last?) movie which is a hockey drama-comedy based on the song “Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song)” by Warren Zevon. The song, which is about a hockey player renowned for his fighting on the ice rink, was co-written by Tuesdays With Morrie author Mitch Albom, who is co-working with Smith on the film.  Smith lately announced that Nicholas Braun (acted in Red State) had been cast in the lead character of Buddy McCracken. At the Sundance premiere of ‘Red State”, Smith also revealed that ‘Hit Somebody” will be the last movie he ever directs. Maybe Silent Bob's focus  will change to the future on his comic work which includes Batman and later Green Hornet or through his View Askew Production (remembering  the 1997 Good Will Hunting, when energetic Smith was co-executive producer, assisting friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck with making and marketing their famous film. ) God knows the plans he has…Speaking of “Good Will Hunting's” Oscar-winning duo,  must notice their previous appearance in Smith's  religious comedy Dogma as themselves filming a mock sequel to “Good Will Hunting”. The two A-list stars certainly have a history with Kevin Smith. Affleck also led his romantic comedy Chasing Amy and played in Mallrats. However, their roles in Hit Somebody would probably be more similar to cameo roles much like their appearance in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. They won't be playing themselves but Smith says,
They're all coming back. It's like The Muppet Movie. You've got your core cast, and then a zillion cameos. It's going to sum everything up. We'll have a team in Boston, and who do you think I'm going to call? Both of those dudes.”
Smith was firmed, referring to the many characters that have came out in Clerks, “Mallrats” and the other View Askew films over the years. “That means I can pull from my entire history of film,” he went on and revealed that he thinking about a certain Cop Out star he didn't exactly get along with.
I'm not even ruling out [Bruce Willis], you know what I'm saying? I would even put a stick in Willis' hand. I'd duck, but I'd put a stick in Willis' hand and put him on ice!”
We'll soon know if Smith is true to his word. He is still finishing up the script, but if this is going to be his farewell to cinema, (some of you may be breath a sigh of relief), he may be thinking of more names from the past to include here — John Goodman's coach character, e.g.; certainly much of his “Red State” roster including Kyle Gallner, Michael Angarano, Michael Parks and Nicholas Braun. I doubt if Jay and Silent Bob will come on icy stage. KEVIN SMITH talks with MITCH ALBOM on Mitch Albom LIVE:
