No doubt it's an Ant-Man kind of week! After securing Michael Douglas as the original Ant-Man and Paul Rudd as the successor who steals Hank Pym's superhero technology word has come that End of Watch actor Michael Pena has been offered a role and that he is interested.
There's no word on who the Mexican-American actor could be playing, but THR does say that Marvel Studios has been searching for a “tough Latino who has to be ready for a lot of physical play,” and they were considering “actors ranging from Javier Bardem to Clifton Collins Jr.”
Bearing in mind director Edgar Wright earlier revealed Ant-Man would feel more like a heist movie than a superhero film, Pena may be playing part of Scott Lang's crew of criminals that steal the Ant-Man suit and equipment from Pym's home lab (or Pym's hardware for altruistic reasons, only to eventually take over as Ant-Man with the elder hero's blessing).
With Ant-Man set for an April start date, there's time for Pena to do Fox's limited series drama ‘Gracepoint‘, which production begins at the end of this month in Vancouver and run through March.
Moreover, Variety claims that Rashida Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard are in the running to be the leading lady in the movie, but offers haven't gone out just yet. On the other hand, Jessica Chastain has reportedly removed herself from the race. Bleeding Cool also claims that Janet Van Dyne could be Pym's daughter, and she'll link up with Lang before eventually becoming The Wasp…
Supposed to launch Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ant-Man is set for release on July 31st, 2015.
