The road to the release of “Mission: The production of Impossible 8” has been a rough ride marked by a number of set backs such as delay in productions, increased costs and technical glitches. Nonetheless, the audiences of the legendary spy series look forward to Tom Cruise reprising his role as Ethan Hunt in an exciting finish to the two-film arc.
Initially slated for a June 2024 release, “Mission: Impossible 8” (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two) has been moved to May 23, 2025, following the occurrence of various challenges. The production of the film had been stopped last year due to industry strikes and then later this year due to a malfunction with a $25 million submarine prop after it had restarted in March. It was reported that the gimbal which was used in lifting the 120-feet tall structure failed due to the structure's weight and needs fixing and has caused a delay in shooting for weeks.
The budget for the much-awaited sequel is reported to be approaching a staggering $400 million, which puts it in the league of one of the most costly movies of all. This is a testament to the franchise's audacity and the extent to which the directors will go to provide the most engaging piece of action cinema.
However, director Christopher McQuarrie is not discouraged; he has stated that approximately 40% of the film was shot before the strikes, including location shooting in Africa and the Arctic. He also announced that the largest and most complex scene of the picture was still to be shot, thus indicating a powerful finale to the two-part story.
Other main characters reprising their roles include Ving Rhames as Luther, Simon Pegg as Benji, Hayley Atwell as Gareth's wife, Vanessa Kirby as the British Prime Minister, and Esai Morales as the U.S. Secretary of Defense with Holt McCallaney while joining the cast are Nick Offerman, Janet McTeer, Hannah Waddington, and Lucy Tulugarjuk.
Last summer, despite the fact that “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” underperformed at the box office which allegedly made Paramount lose almost $100 million, the fan base is still optimistic about the fact that the next part will be able to make up for this. Eventually, it should be noted that Tom Cruise is a legend in terms of impressing with action scenes and attracting audience internationally.
There is so much expectation that comes with the nearing release date, particularly the climax between Ethan Hunt and his foes. With the reported budget and production challenges, “Mission: It even claims that mid-way Impossible 8 is going to be one among the epic spectacles that either are going to set the stage for the franchise's permanent place in Hollywood storytelling or rather warn the coming generations of the ill-effects of overdoing things in Hollywood.
With the enormous $400 million budget and numerous production delays, do you think “Mission: Impossible 8” will be able to recoup its costs and become a box office success?
