NBC’s THE FAMILY GUIDE Changing Its Name to GROWING UP FISHER

Growing Up Fisher
Growing Up Fisher We already talked about NBC's upcoming comedy The Family Guide, hope you're ready for the show? Ok then, we're back to inform you that the J.K. Simmons comedy has been renamed Growing Up Fisher. Everything else is the same – the typical family in the middle of divorce: two kids, mom, dad and guide dog. Directed by David Schwimmer, the half-hour comedy is executive produced by DJ Nash, Jason Bateman and Jim Garavente. It centers on a son who idolizes his blind father and is bemused by his mother's newfound adolescence who watches his family come closer together post-divorce. Posey played the mother. Or, if you prefer more details, here's the official description of the show: “It's not every family that's brought closer together by divorce, but then again, the Fishers aren't exactly typical. Take Mel Fisher, for example. Whether it's chopping down trees, showing his daughter how to drive or playing football with his son, he's never let the fact that he's blind slow him down. Then there's Joyce Fisher, possibly the only mom in Pasadena to smoke a pipe. For her, divorce is like a second coming of age, a chance to be the teen she never was. Just ask '80s-obsessed teenage daughter Katie, whose clothes Joyce is always borrowing. At the center of all this is Henry, the Fisher's 11-year old son. Having always been his dad's eyes, ears and wingman, Henry's less than thrilled when Mel shows up with Elvis, a guide dog… which is also how Henry learns about the pending divorce. Awkward. While reluctant to the changes this “big ball of fur” would bring, it's through the adult Henry's voice-over that we find out his parent's split would “allow all of us to finally discover…who we needed to be.” Beside J.K. Simmons who plays Mel Fisher, Growing Up Fisher also stars Ava Deluca-Verley, Eli Baker, and… no, Parker Posey is no longer on board for the show. We've just learned that Jenna Elfman is in talks to take over the role, although no official casting has been announced. As usual – we'll keep an eye on this project, so make sure you stay tuned!
