DreamWorks Pictures has released the next trailer for director Scott Waugh‘s upcoming street racing action revenge thriller, which provides an extended look at the upcoming adaptation of the classic video game series Need for Speed.
A new full-length trailer introduces viewers to the revenge-themed plot, as well as the band of characters Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul will associate with during the film, including Michael Keaton.
The story follows a cross-country race against time as a blue-collar mechanic (Paul) who was framed for manslaughter by a wealthy, arrogant ex-NASCAR driver (Dominic Cooper) sets out for revenge in a high-stakes underground racing tournament.
Need for Speed also stars Imogen Poots, Kid Cudi, Ramon Rodriguez, Rami Malek, Harrison Gilbertson, and Dakota Johnson, and opens in theaters on March 14th, 2014.
Waugh previous said that car films from the 1970s and 1980s were the inspiration for this film because all the stunts were done for real and in-camera:
I’m all about practicality because I believe that, if you break the rules of physics in stunt work, you break the rules of character jeopardy. If a car can jump off a moving train that’s 40 feet high and land and keep going, then a person can take a bullet and keep going, too. [In reality] if a car crashes, it ain’t going anywhere.
