Here are two new photos from The Hunger Games, one of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and one of Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and Lionsgate announces November 22, 2013 as a release date for the second movie.
The film is the first in a trilogy and also stars Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland and Lenny Kravitz.
Every year, a boy and girl are chosen from each of the country’s 12 districts to fight each other to the death until only one remains. Katniss is from one of the poorest districts, but she is skilled in archery and hunting, which makes her a fierce competitor. Katniss wears a mockingjay pin — the flaming symbol on the poster — which is a sign of rebellion against Panem’s oppressive government.
“The Hunger Games” is directed by Gary Ross.
Lionsgate has already scheduled the sequel to 2012’s The Hunger Games, before the movie has even finished shooting. The second installment, Catching Fire, will be adapted for a big screen release on November 22, 2013, approximately a year and a half after the original hits theaters.
