First Look at Robert Eggers’ ‘Nosferatu’ Poster: Bill Skarsgård Transforms as the Iconic Vampire

As horror fans anticipate Robert Eggers' reimagining of Nosferatu, set to release on December 25, 2024, the first official poster gives us a haunting glimpse of what's to come. Eggers, known for his atmospheric films like The Witch and The Northman, returns to the realm of gothic horror, but this time, he's reviving one of the most iconic vampire tales ever told.

In the new poster, we see Bill Skarsgård, best known for his chilling portrayal of Pennywise in It, taking on the role of the vampire Count Orlok. While the original Nosferatu (1922) featured a hairless, rat-like version of the vampire, Skarsgård's Count Orlok appears to sport an unexpected addition—hair! This minor yet intriguing detail has already sparked fan theories about Eggers' unique take on the timeless character. Will Skarsgård's version of the vampire be even more menacing than his predecessors?

The cast of Nosferatu is nothing short of impressive. Alongside Skarsgård, the film features a stellar lineup, including Willem Dafoe (who ironically portrayed a version of Count Orlok in 2000's Shadow of the Vampire), Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, Lily-Rose Depp, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. With a blend of both seasoned and rising talent, Eggers' film promises a fresh yet faithful take on this classic tale of obsession and horror.

Eggers, who also wrote the script, will serve as producer alongside Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus. Drawing inspiration from F.W. Murnau's silent 1922 film and Werner Herzog's 1979 adaptation, Eggers seems poised to deliver a visually stunning and emotionally harrowing experience.

For those unfamiliar with the origins, Nosferatu was an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Murnau's film almost didn't survive a legal battle, but its endurance solidified Nosferatu as a cornerstone of vampire lore.

With Eggers at the helm, we can expect a deep dive into the gothic terror that made the original a masterpiece, all while offering something new for modern audiences. December 25 can't come soon enough!
