Legendary Italian actor Franco Nero ( Django, Die Hard 2, and he's a voice for the upcoming Cars 2) has apparently revealed at the recent Los Angeles Italia festival (via Movieplayer) that he's working on an epic Spaghetti Western project with Quentin Tarantino.
US director Quentin Tarantino who has recently received an honorary Cesar at the Paris event, has for years been openly declared affiliation to Spaghetti Westerns, and it seems he is finally about to have his dream of directing his very own. Nero says:
The film will be called The Angel, The Bad And The Wise and is a tribute to Sergio Leone. It's a movie that contains humor, lots of action, but also a great plot. We have already been signed by a dozen people who will be part of project. Among the filmmakers involved include Quentin Tarantino, Keith Carradine, Treat Williams, fifteen people in all Americans who want to do this movie and so we are trying to produce it outside of Italy.”
Such statement affected some confirmation and correction from AICN's Mr. Beaks's “Tarantino sources” that learned the following: Yes, it's truth that Quentin Tarantino's next film is a spaghetti western – he is, even more, writing an original western. Christoph Waltz (one of his 2009 Inglourious Basterds) is “one of the stars”. And, no, that title is completely wrong!
FYI, Waltz is in Europe right now filming God Of Carnage for director Roman Polanski, and if he's going to re-unite with Tarantino this year, that's a very exciting indeed. This is incredibly news and if Tarantino does get his spaghetti western to go in front of cameras this year, it could mean new Tarantino in theaters by 2012. And maybe Tarantino will finally get his chance to work with Ennio Morricone since he originally wanted him to compose the soundtrack for the “Basterds.”
Also, Quentin's going to be throwing another of his film festivals for the full month of March at the New Beverly, and when he's gearing up on a film, you can learn a lot about what's on his mind by what he shows at his fests.
And speaking of New Bev, one of the best parts at the New Beverly is the week-long booking for Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, the re-edited one-movie version of the story with new footage.
You can expect more on this in the upcoming news.
