Another adaptation is coming, but this one could actually be the fabulous one. R.J.Cutler, (‘The September Issue’ documentary) will direct an adaptation of Fabulous Nobodies, Lee Tulloch’s novel that is already described as “a social satire set in the 1980’s downtown club scene of New York, where a group of people lived and breathed fashion until it took over the world.” Check out the rest of this report for more details.
So, at this moment we do know that Mark Fortin and Josh Miller will write the screenplay, while Gail Lyon (Erin Brockovich), Julie Anne Quay (former executive editor of V magazine) and Cutler himself are on board for producing the whole thing.
And this is no surprise, we already mentioned that R.J.Cutler was in charge for ‘The September Issue’ documentary that followed “Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour as she prepared for her magazine’s fall fashion issue. No word on distribution or casting at the moment.”
Now, we’ll have a chance to watch something like this: “Life is cruel to people who aren’t fabulous,” sniffs 20-year-old Manhattanite Reality Nirvana Tuttle. In this lighthearted yet devastatingly accurate and witty social satire, former fashion editor Tulloch parodies hip young New Yorkers like Reality whose lives revolve around superficialities–wearing the right outfits, patronizing the in clubs, socializing with the right people and becoming “fabulous.”
Fashion is sublime to narrator Reality, who names each of her “frocks” and sports a tattoo of the Chanel logo. As the “doorwhore” at a trendy nightclub called Less Is More, she haughtily decides who is garbed bizarrely enough to merit admittance. Outrageous ’60s chic usually wins approval; demurely clad Jackie Onassis is unceremoniously banished. When she isn’t working or scheming to get herself into Frenzee magazine, Reality cavorts with an editor of Perfect Woman who slavishly emulates the gamin look of Audrey Hepburn, and with a transvestite who owns a dog named Cristobal Balenciaga.”
