The European-set sequel to
The Muppets has added another TV comedy talent. British comedian
Ricky Gervais is in negotiations to join
Ty Burrell, who recently replaced
Christoph Waltz as the human lead in Disney's
Untitled Muppets Sequel.
Something unexpected happened, indeed. Gervais' part is being compared to the role played by
Jason Segel in the 2011 Muppets movie, but funnyman Gervais isn't exactly known for being sentimental.
However, the actor having appeared on Sesame Street in segments with Elmo (below) and Grover, and he also did a live appearance with Elmo, singing ‘New York, New York,' as well as he actually shot a cameo for the original film, which was sliced during the edit.
Director
James Bobin and writer
Nicholas Stoller are set to return behind the camera to the follow-up Euro-caper movie to the 2011 hit, which starts production in January in London.
Bret McKenzie is doing the music.
Expect a slew of cameo news in the coming months as the untitled sequel to The Muppets is set for release on December 20th, 2013.
As for Gervais, he last appeared on the big screen in 2009s The Invention of Lying.
