Russell Crowe Joins Hugh Jackman In Tom Hooper’s LES MISERABLES

Russel Crowe-Les Miserables

Les Misérables aka Les Mis, one of the most famous musicals worldwide, based on the novel Les Misérables by Victor Hugo, will star Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert playing opposite Hugh Jackman‘s Jean Valjean. Of course, you don’t need to show your face at the theater because Universal has set Tom Hooper’s adaptation of Les Miserables for a December 7, 2012 release date for the movie. Due to the production of Jackman’s The Wolverine has been delayed until next year. Helena Bonham Carter, who starred in Hooper’s The King Speech, is also in talks for a key role – Carter would play Thenardier’s greedy wife – you know, they own an inn and exploit their customers. And the prison-guard Javert will stop at nothing to recapture Jean Valjean (Jackman), the man who steals bread to feed his sister and spends the next years in prison. The story is set against the backdrop of a revolution in nineteenth century France. Composer Claude-Michel Schoenberg’s Tony Award-winning score will be used. Also, musical’s original producer, Cameron Mackintosh is developing the film of Les Miserables from the script penned by William Nicholson (Elizabeth: The Golden Age). As you might know Crowe sings and has formed two rock bands, 30 Odd Foot of Grunts and The Ordinary Fear of God. On the other hand, Jackman won the Tony for his portrayal of the late singer Peter Allen in The Boy from Oz. As for Carter’s voice experience you can hear her singing in Sweeney Todd. Of course it should also be mentioned that Crowe is set to star with Mark Wahlberg in Allen Hughes’ Broken City, plays Superman’s biological father in Man of Steel and appears opposite The RZA in the kung-fu epic The Man with the Iron Fists.
