Ryan Reynolds Is The Green Lantern
Ryan Reynolds has been chosen over two other finalists, Bradley Cooper and Justin Timberlake, for the role of Hal Jordan in “The Green Lantern” – live-action film based on the DC Comics hero.
Raynolds recently starred in a comic book movie, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” where he played Deadpool. He followed that by starring opposite Sandra Bullock in the romantic comedy “The Proposal.”
A search for an actor had been underway for several months. One of the reasons it took so long to find someone was because director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, GoldenEye, The Legend of Zorro), producer Donald De Line and the studio each had a different favorite among the finalists.
The “Green Lantern” was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Introduced in 1959, Hal Jordan is a second-generation test pilot, an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur's spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was “utterly honest and born without fear.”
“The Green Lantern” is scheduled to be released on June 17, 2011.
