Sacha Baron Cohen To Join Tom Hooper’s LES MISERABLES

Sacha Baron Cohen Sacha Baron Cohen, best known for performing the title role in Borat, who has recently been seen as the station inspector in Hugo, is now aboard as the hotelier and thief Monsieur Thenardier in a big-screen adaptation of Les Misérables, which will be directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Tom Hooper. Wow! That’s one really long sentence. Ha. Hmmm, what else to say… well, previously speculated Helena Bonham Carter is confirmed and will reunite with her The King’s Speech director to play Madame Thénardier. As you might remember, Carter and Cohen worked together on the film adaptation of Sweeney Todd. Already cast in the Les Mis movie are Hugh Jackman as ex-convict Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as police inspector Javert, Anne Hathaway as the frail Fantine and indie star Eddie Redmayne as Marius. The lead roles of Eponine and Cosette have yet to be cast. The film was supposed to start shooting in February 2012. Cohen’s latest project The Dictator is scheduled for release next year and his Freddie Mercury biopic is scheduled for sometime in 2013. In addition to Borat and Sweeney Todd, check out his performance as a rival barber, the flamboyant Signor Adolfo Pirelli.
