Written and directed by Folman, and based on Stanislaw Lem‘s The Futurological Congress, the movie tells the story of an aging actress with a disabled child who agrees to a large payment to have a full body imaging that will be digitized and utilized to create a digital actress.
As you already had a chance to see in the official trailer for the movie, her identity is purchased by a film studio so that her likeness may exist in perpetuity, leading to glimpses at an animated blend of future visions, blending utopias and dystopia.
But, as part of the agreement, she will no longer control her likeness and the studio will then utilize the new virtual thespian in any manner they see fit. She will also be forbidden from acting ever again…
Also starring Harvey Keitel, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Danny Huston, Sami Gayle, Michael Stahl-David and Paul Giamatti, The Congress premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival, and a US theatrical and VOD/digital release is planned for 2014.
