“The Day The Earth Stood Still” – Gort Concept Art

Gort Concept Art

Concept artist Lorin Wood working on “The Day The Earth Stood Still” remake, and posted a concept rendering of Gort from the new film. Remake director Scott Derrickson recently referenced having considered multiple approaches to Gort, including ideas which deviated significantly from the “classic robot” design of Robert Wise's 1951 film. Such deviation was evident in our early script review of the remake, in which Gort was not even called “Gort” & had a design which shifted between Totem-like & quadrupedal. “The Day the Earth Stood Still” is 20th Century Fox's contemporary reinvention of its 1951 classic. Keanu Reeves portrays Klaatu, an alien whose arrival on our planet triggers a global upheaval. As governments and scientists race to unravel the mystery behind the visitor's appearance, a woman (Jennifer Connelly) and her young stepson get caught up in his mission – and come to understand the ramifications of his being a self-described “friend to the Earth.” The film also stars Kathy Bates, Jaden Smith, Jon Hamm and Kyle Chandler. “The Day the Earth Stood Still” is scheduled to hit theaters on December 12th. SAD!!!! A knock off of Star wars / Transformers. How could anyone not keep the original GORT and update and enhance the character??? Attempt to follow BIG BUCK BANG in hollywood has once again destroyed an ICON. I have been a GORT fan since I first viewed the movie in 1962. Thank God I have it on everything from Beta-DVD. I have statues and pictures. GORT was and still is like the original KING KONG, a work of art. I will match the 1 and only GORT (1951) against any monster of today, super hero, even Obi-Wans Light Saber and YES…..even against the mighty YODA!!!!
HOW DARE YOU HOLLYWOOD. How dare you attempt to defile even more of the great Silver Screen Years. How dare you molest such a great creation in a time when the pictures message was so important and altering. No one remembers the Kid, The Boyfriend. Just GORT. They barely remember Klatuu. ONLY the icon known as GORT!!!!
    SHAME ON YOU ALL………

We agree with David 100%. All you Mother******* will pay for this travesty of a movie. I hope GORT really comes down & lays waste(except to David and us of course – because we love GORT and he knows it). ‘Klaatu barada nikto’ is the phrase that will save. You’ll all be saying “…ooh what a lovely tea party…” and GORT will be saying like “…noitch!” as he erases your asses ala Total Recall…

    Snoogins…

    …are are we?
