Opening the 59th Berlin International Film Festival, action thriller “The International” directed by Tom Tykwer (“Perfume: The Story of a Murderer,” segment in “Paris, je t’aime,” “The Princess and the Warrior“) from an original screenplay written by Eric Singerhad had its world premiere on February 5, 2009.

The movie will hit US theaters on February 13, 2009.
“The International” centers on an obsessive Interpol agent Louis Salinger (Clive Owen) who spearheads an investigation into one of the world’s most high-profile and powerful banking institutions in an attempt to expose them for worldwide arms brokering, corruption and murder. Eleanor Whitman (Naomi Watts) Manhattan assistant district attorney who partners with the agent to take down the bank.
Salinger and Whitman follow the money from Berlin to Milan to New York to Istanbul. Finding themselves in a high-stakes chase across the globe, their relentless tenacity puts their own lives at risk as their targets will stop at nothing – even murder – to continue financing terror and war.
