Yolki 2 – Trailer
Timur Bekmambetov and Eva Jin on SIX DEGREES OF CELEBRATION Remake
Let's talk a bit about film industry in the BRIC countries. More precisely, it is one of the first partnerships of its kind; Russian-Chinese collaboration on a new version of the 2010 Russian hit comedy Yolki.
Therefore, Timur Bekmambetov and Eva Jin are the first two directors among several filmmakers who will direct segments of the Six Degrees of Celebration, the switch to Chinese New Year that will be framed around that date on February 10th, 2013.
The 2010 first film became the most successful Russian movie over the last three years. The deal comes after Yolki 2 became the leader of the local box office in Russia last weekend.
The original tells the stories of eight different Russians from eight different time zones and how their destinies intersect one New Years Eve.
Next version will develop eight stories connected by a young orphan girl who must deliver a message to the President and whose only hope is to use the theory of ‘six degrees of separation' – that all people are connected by six handshakes.
Bekmambetov is firstly getting a jump on Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter for Fox.
As for Yimeng Jin aka Eva Jin, her recent feature film Sophie's Revenge earned 100M RMB ($15M USD) in China that is the symbolic box office barrier and a prove that romantic comedy could be a huge commercial success in her country.
FYI, ‘six degrees of separation' refers to the idea that everyone is on average approximately six steps away, by way of introduction, from any other person on Earth, so that a chain of, “a friend of a friend” statements can be made, on average, to connect any two people in six steps or fewer. It was originally set out by Frigyes Karinthy and popularized by a play written by John Guare.
Six Degrees of Separation is also a 1993 American film adaptation of the same title, directed by Fred Schepisi, which was inspired by real-life con artist David Hampton. For her lead performance, Stockard Channing received an Academy Award for Best Actress nomination.
