For those unfamiliar with the film, it's based on the novel One Shot by Lee Child, and stars Tom Cruise as the titular ex-military investigator who is tasked with tracking down a serial sniper.
I don't know about you, but knowing that he's short (and scientologist) simply can't make me see him as a tough guy (ok he showed he can fight, but still… he doesn't come off as imposing as… for example, Alexander Skarsgard). After all, he's what? Fifty years old? That can give him only the advantage of experience, as in ‘knows where to kick so it hurts'. Long way from Top Gun…
Yep, in this one he plays a guy (again) who knows where to hit you as opposed to characters who will just beat the living sh*t out of you. The trailer makes Jack Reacher look like any other Tom Cruise hero – except he doesn't smile.
Synopsis:
“When a gunman takes five lives with six shots, all evidence points to the suspect in custody. On interrogation, the suspect offers up a single note: “Get Jack Reacher!” So begins an extraordinary chase for the truth, pitting Jack Reacher against an unexpected enemy, with a skill for violence and a secret to keep.”
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the film also stars Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, Richard Jenkins, David Oyelowo and Werner Herzog. Jack Reacher opens on December 21st, 2012.
