Top Gun 2 With Tom Cruise in the Works?
Top Gun 2, you like the sound of that? Hmm, eighties are back, why not?
Well, 24 years later Paramount has asked producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott to work on a follow-up to the blockbuster and Christopher McQuarrie has been asked to update the story.
And, according to some reports, Tom Cruise seems to be interested in reprising his role as Lt. Pete ‘Maverick' Mitchell, but only in a supporting role, and only if it's not an “obvious” part.
So, guys from the New York Magazine report:
“We're told by a source close to the project that McQuarrie – who is friendly with Cruise – has found a way to incorporate Maverick, and what's more, we hear that Cruise has to agreed to take a smaller role in the film, provided it's not too “obvious” a part, i.e. Lt. Pete ‘Maverick' Mitchell as grizzled Top Gun flight instructor.”
Should we consider that as yes, Cruise will be back for the sequel? Probably, but still, let's wait and see.
In the meanwhile, let us remind you that Top Gun came out in 1986, featuring Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards and Tom Skerritt.
The movie centers around the role Tom Cruise plays, Maverick. As a young determined pilot Maverick and his wingman are in the Persian Gulf when they battle it out with a pair of MiG's.
His wingman Cougar, is outmaneuvered and running out of gas, but Maverick is able to talk him down to safety. Later Cougar turns in his wings and Maverick is sent to the Top Gun Naval School.
While their Maverick falls in love with a Charlie, a beautiful civilian instructor. As Maverick struggles to be the Top Gun and struggles with the others students, the audience learns about his father's death while serving his country.
With every new detail, we'll be back!
