Clint Eastwood's
Unforgiven and stars
Ken Watanabe in the lead role.
A number of western movies have re-told the samurai movie in a Western context —
Yojimbo and
Seven Samurai were remade as
A Fistful of Dollars and
The Magnificent Seven — but now it'll go the other direction as
David Webb Peoples‘ screenplay, which was originally titled ‘The Cut-Whore Killings' and ‘The William Munny Killings' is remade as a Samurai film.
Directed by
Lee Sang-il with Watanabe in the Munny role, the film captures a beautiful Japanese landscape. Set in 1880, Munny is now a long retired samurai Jubei Kamata with a violent past, who lives on Japan's northern island of Hokkaido with his Ainu wife, but is brought out of retirement for one last job.

Koichi Sato co-stars as Gene Hackman's character while Akira Emoto plays
Morgan Freeman's character. The ensemble cast also includes Jun Kunimura, Yuya Yagira and Shiori Kutsuna.
