Venice 2013: ANA ARABIA by Amos Gitai

Ana Arabia Amos Gitai‘s latest movie Ana Arabia is one of the titles that will compete for Golden Lion prize at this year's Venice Film Festival, which runs from August 28 – September 7th. Today, we're here to take the first look at lovely Yuval Scharf, who plays the female lead in the movie that will (reportedly) evoke passions, trauma and disappointments from the past. Head inside to check her out, and read more about this interesting story… Gitai directed the movie from a script he co-wrote with Marie-Jose Sanselme, which follows seven characters living on the Jaffa-Bat Yam border in a community isolated from the real estate reality of the surrounding city. The above mentioned Scharf plays a young journalist named Yael, who visits a small community of outcasts, Jews and Arabs, who live together in a forgotten enclave at the “border” between Jaffa and Bat Yam, in Israel. She discovers a range of characters far removed from the usual clichés offered by the region. Their relation to time is different than that of the city around them. In this dilapidated and fragile place, there is a possibility of coexistence. Beside Scharf, the rest of Ana Arabia cast includes Yussuf Abuwarda, Norman Issa, Uri Gavriel, Assi Levy, Shady Srur and Sarah Adler. Filmed in one sequence-shot of 85 minutes, the movie will tell us an universal story of life, dreams, hopes, love affairs, desires and disillusions. Sounds promising enough? Hope we'll soon have a trailer and more details, make sure you stay tuned! Ana Arabia
