Venice 2013: NIGHT MOVES Images and Poster

Night Moves

What happens to a person's political principles when they find their back against the wall? We'll soon find that out, because Kelly Reichardt‘s drama Night Moves is scheduled to be shown in the main competition section of the 70th Venice International Film Festival. Until the official trailer and clip for the movie arrive, check out the first images and posters for this pretty interesting project.

Night Moves

Reichardt directed the movie from a script she co-wrote with Jonathan Raymond, which revolves around three radical environmentalists who come together to execute the most spectacular direct action event of their lives: the explosion of a hydroelectric dam. Why? Well, because it's the very source and symbol of the energy sucking, resource-devouring industrial culture they despise!

Peter Sarsgaard stars as Harmon, a former Marine, radicalized by tours of duty overseas. His life in the military is behind him, but at heart he remains the same reckless alpha male he always was, eager for adventure, excited by the prospect of mayhem and destruction.

Dena, played by Dakota Fanning, is a high society dropout, sickened by the consumer economy into which she was born. She's moved west and cut ties with her family, edging ever deeper into radical politics.

Night Moves

And let's not forget Josh, their leader, portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg, who is a self-made militant, devoted to the protection of the Earth by any means necessary. A son of the middle class who works on an organic farm, he's an intensely private person by nature and may have the deepest convictions of them all.

Described as a tale of suspense and a meditation on the consequences of political extremism, Night Moves also stars Alia Shawkat, Clara Mamet, James LeGros and Katherine Waterston.

Beside Venice, the movie will also play at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival next month, so I guess we'll soon have more updates to share.
