I'm sorry, but it's true: Warner Bros. has put Jon Favreau‘s feature adaptation into turnaround. Just six weeks after signing GK Films, the production company behind the movie, an exclusive first-look deal for one year and brought Jersey Boys with them.
Favreau's adaptation of the Broadway hit, purchased by GK Films in 2010, originally struggled over at Sony before landing at Warners. However, the project is now being shopped to other studios like 20th Century Fox and Paramount.
The film is based on Tony Award winning Broadway musical about the rise to fame of the classic group Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons from blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks to one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time with such hits as ‘Sherry,' ‘Big Girls Don't Cry' and ‘Walk Like a Man.'
Besides Favreau, it's got a script by Hugo and Skyfall writer John Logan.
Favreau and GK Films honcho Graham King, had looked toward Paul Dano, James Badge Dale, John Magaro (Not Fade Away), Dominic Cooper (Captain America), and Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire).
Production on Jersey Boys was aimed to start in early next year with plans to have it in theaters by Christmas 2013. Whether or not GK Films manage to keep musical alive remains to be seen.
